Rock School - General Information

Our challenge: Show us a kid, young or old, who doesn’t like music!

Upper Valley Presents’ Rock School is a community-based educational program that teaches creativity, teamwork, social skills, self-esteem, and confidence through music. Our mission is to create a positive atmosphere in which students are motivated and encouraged through hands-on learing to achieve their own personal fulfillment, whether through instrumentation, song writing, singing, or recording. We strive to bring communities together, to reach out to kids, young or old, and to create an atmosphere that truly Rocks! From here, we will expand our vision and hope that other communities will recognize the value that music plays in the lives of our students and audiences everywhere.

Tuck Stocking, Berklee College of Music trained and veteran guitarist, allows individuals and existing bands to gain ensemble awareness, network and get a chance to play in a group. Class is for vocalists, drummers, rhythm and lead guitarists and bassists of all ages and abilities. Rock School teaches rock, jazz, blue grass or any genre in which you may be interested.

“Get out of your basement,” says Tuck, “bring your instrument, positive attitude and I’ll supply coaching and amplification.”

Additionally, existing bands can sign up with the school for coaching and production of their own CD.

PA and session infrastructure including drums & keyboard is provided, you bring your own amp and guitar.

Come and have a free look/discussion with Tuck in advance. Tuck will place you with like-minded and ability players. Or, come with your existing band - special rates apply. We schedule eight classes followed by a public recital for those who are ready. Classes meet on all days except Tuesdays. Weekday meetings are from 7 to 9 PM and weekend meetings are after lunch. Call (802) 649 2772 for current session dates and class schedules. Cost $240 for 8 classes + public show.

Rock School is brought to you by Upper Valley Presents, a Vermont nonprofit that celebrates neighborhood by bringing educational and artistic events to the Upper Valley. Other programs brought by UVP are Summer Days Camp, Music Together (a family music programs for ages birth to K) and Open Air Summer Family Concert series.

Sponsors and Partners of Rock School include Lebanon Opera House, Pentagle Council of the Arts, CATV, Whaleback Ski Area, TransCanada, Middle Earth Music Hall, Hanover Strings and Blue Mountain Guitar. Also, kudos to the efforts of the parents of players for getting them to where they are in their lives and where they need to be each week.

Session #3 performed at Open Air on July 26th, 2007

Tuck Stocking’s students performed live at Norwich Gardens’ outdoor amphitheater. Their dynamic stage presence and tight instrumentation, original compositions and Alex Barsamian’s electric mandolin defined the show. The performance included The Pendulum, an original song written by the students. Listen also for Zach Ordway’s and Nick Phelps’ original compositions. Thanks to a grant from TransCanada, Rock School purchased equipment for its sound engineering curriculum. Tonight’s show will be recorded and later produced to CD for each student to take home. Additionally, you will see cameras recording the action for a visual record of the performance. Rock School has received further assistance from Blue Mountain Guitar Center and Hanover Strings. Rock School rents space for its classes from the Upper Valley Events Center. The success of Rock School contributed to their decision to custom-build a performance hall and sound engineering studio for the school. Please take a minute to view the work in progress across the green in Lewiston Hall.
